God at Work

You may or may not have heard on the news about the church bus that crashed in Meridian, Mississippi, on Sunday. There were 23 people on board the bus from First Baptist Church in Shreveport, which is a beautiful church only a short walk from our house. The bus was en route to some kind of retreat/camp in Macon, Georgia, when a rear tire blew out and the bus flipped several times. Sadly, one teenager was killed and 22 other passengers injured.

Fortunately, a bus of National Guardsmen was driving just 2/10 of a mile behind the church bus. Today's Shreveport Times says:

The guardsmen were headed home from a three-day training exercise at Camp Shelby, Miss., where they had trained to respond to rollover accidents — both as passengers and emergency personnel — when they saw the crash. Some are trained in triage as Combat Lifesavers. There was at least one firefighter and one nurse on the charter bus.

Did you catch that? They had just been trained in responding to rollover accidents. The guardsmen helped the injured out of the overturned bus and then lifted the bus when they realized two girls were trapped under it. They helped tend to the injured and give comfort until ambulances arrived. It gives me chills. God is at work in all things!
